The Seed

The ownership

If you believe strongly enough in what you’re doing, it becomes contagious, and you’ll get good helpers with you along the way.

Aquaculture is at the core of Kvarv’s value creation, but our perspective is steadily broadening. Investments in real estate, technology and other innovation projects are growing. Both the scope and the depth of our operations are continuously evolving.

About Kvarv AS

Kvarv AS is the parent company in a family-owned group with its head office at Kverva on Frøya. Kvarv AS is the ultimate manager of ownership in the various companies in the group and does not itself engage in active commercial operations.

The Kvarv Group is the sum of all the businesses operated under the parent company Kvarv AS. The Kvarv Group has ownership and shareholdings in a number of companies, most of them along the Norwegian coast, but also in other parts of Norway and in other countries. Altogether, the companies in the group have more than 5,600 skilled employees. The role of Kvarv AS is about responsible ownership and safeguarding the Witzøe family’s and the company’s values and cultural heritage, while at the same time evolving in step with the times.

About the Kvarv Group

With respect for where we come from and inspiration from our role models, we develop our own culture.

Our companies

Since Gustav Witzøe in 1991 scraped together enough money to buy a bankrupt fish farming facility in his hometown, the Kvarv Group has grown into a multibillion-dollar corporation, with operations in 14 countries on four continents. Its reach is global, but it is still here at home along the coast of Norway that the greatest value creation takes place.

SalMar ASA is one of the world’s largest and most efficient aquaculture companies, headquartered on Frøya in Trøndelag. The company produces, processes, and exports salmon to markets all over the world.
